How lot sizing works when you copy F&O
Why a 0.5× follower sometimes gets 1 lot, sometimes none, and never an odd quantity.
65
lot size
Exchanges only accept F&O orders in whole lots. A NIFTY lot is 65 and a BANKNIFTY lot is 30, so a quantity like 97 would be rejected. CopyPilot sizes every copy in whole lots to avoid that.
Multiplier
The master's quantity is turned into lots, multiplied, and rounded down.
| Master (NIFTY) | Multiplier | Follower gets |
|---|---|---|
| 3 lots · 195 | 1× | 3 lots · 195 |
| 3 lots · 195 | 0.5× | 1 lot · 65 |
| 1 lot · 65 | 0.5× | skipped |
| 2 lots · 130 | 1.5× | 3 lots · 195 |
When the result rounds down to zero, that follower skips the trade rather than taking a size you didn't ask for.
Fixed lots
A fixed follower always trades the same number of lots, whatever the master does. Fixed 2 on NIFTY is always 130.
Stocks
Equity has a lot size of 1, so the same rules apply share by share. A 0.5× follower of a 25-share order gets 12.
Lot sizes come from the exchange's daily instrument list, so they stay correct when NSE revises them.
